Özet
This will be a general talk about application of computational fluid dynamics and structural mechanics (finite element analysis) techniques to model human physiology. Computer modeling solutions have been shown to be extremely useful in health science and clinics. These solutions are used to detect diseases and their severity, design choice of best treatment technique and optimize surgery outcome health. I will briefly mention several topics that I have published recently about patient specific cardiovascular system models and their simulations for surgical planning: pulmonary artery patch design, coronary artery bypass design, repair of congenital heart defects, etc. Also, I will present my current studies about characterization of vessel mechanics and hemodynamics for pulmonary hypertension, diagnosis and prognosis of cardiopulmonary diseases such as cerebral aneurysm and stroke and finally the drug delivery for abdominal aortic aneurysm patients.

Kısa Biyografi
Senol Piskin is a post-doctoral research associate at the Department of Mechanical Engineering, University of Texas at San Antonio and lecturer at the Department of Biomedical Engineering of the same university. He graduated from Department of Mechanical Engineering, ITU and completed his PhD at Computational Science and Engineering Program of Informatics Institute, ITU. After his PhD he did post-doctoral studies jointly at both Koc University and Carnegie Melon University. He is also an entrepreneur and has several patents and established a medical engineering start-up company as well.

İstanbul Teknik Üniversitesi'nde Bilgisayar Mühendisliği eğitimi, 1980 yılında Elektrik-Elektronik Fakültesi bünyesinde kurulan Kontrol ve Bilgisayar Mühendisliği Bölümü ile başlamıştır. Çağın gereklerine daha uygun bir eğitim verebilmek amacıyla, 1997 yılında Bilgisayar Mühendisliği aynı fakültenin bir bölümü olarak yeniden yapılanmıştır. 2010 yılında Bilgisayar ve Bilişim Fakültesi'nin kurulmasıyla ilgili program ve bölümler yeni fakülteye aktarılmıştır.
